Hats off to IBM's HATS
AS400 User Upgrades Interface with Ease
Ray Geer, Director of Information Systems for Sterling Corporation, needed a more user-friendly AS400 interface for his customers to access data and IBM's HATS (Host Access Transformation Services) provided the solution.

Mr. Geer recognized that the cost of new applications and the levels of customization required to meet his requirements were too significant an investment. So he turned to NSI and IBM for the solution.

“This HATS stuff is pretty neat,” Mr. Geer said after its installation.

HATS allowed him to easily leverage all the work his IT staff had made in software development through the years and it cost him NOTHING. Geer took advantage of the 12-hour services voucher IBM provided when the AS400 was purchased – nearly two days of work on-site by IBM, plus travel, free! NSI coordinated the delivery of these services.

Today, HATS allows Sterling Corporation, a specialized transportation firm serving the New England and mid-Atlantic regions, to present end-users through the Internet with a more modern interface using Sterling's existing proprietary applications.

“Right out of the box all menus automatically changed to Point & Click. Some screens were also converted to Point & Click without any change of application,” Geer said.

The Sterling IT staff no longer spends an excessive amount of support time helping customers access vital information and Mr. Geer has established an invaluable relationship with IBM ( Rochester ) that he can rely upon in the future.
