School District Goes Virtual

Benjamin Aldrich, Director of Information Technology for the Killingly (CT) School District, wanted an easier way to run his data center, while also cutting maintenance costs and creating a "test bed" environment for future applications and systems.

He found the answer with NSI.

"They found a way to fit everything into our budget," Aldrich said. "It was everything we asked for and everything that was promised."

Specifically, it was two new servers replacing six old ones, a new SAN and VMware to maximize everything through virtualization for an IT Department that serves a faculty and staff of more than 400 and a student body of more than 2,000.

"We are now more fault-tolerant with more robust services," Aldrich said. "It's working great and we can now start doing some of the things we want to do," Aldrich said.

Among those things is to continue reducing costs, such as power consumption to run and cool the data center, through further virtualization in the future.
