IBM's Open-Source Initiative

Big Blue is taking the next step in redefining the potential of Open-Source (Linux) to streamline inefficiencies in today's business processes. It involves the blending of open-source technologies with open-standards products so business processes can be delivered as services across vertical markets.

"Our role is to assist with the technical underpinnings so (open source) standards deliver on the promised interoperability,” said Steve Mills, IBM Senior Vice President.

Many analysts believe IBM has worked well with the open-source community and that it has solid prospects for changing how many companies adapt their business processes for the Internet age.

"A lot of companies are starting to look to IBM for the old Blue Security Blanket for things like business processes,” Michael Goulde, a senior analyst at Forrester Research, told a leading industry publication. “They are watching IBM wrap the security blanket around open source."

To address concerns about third party technical support and IT training, IBM has enlisted the close involvement of NSI as an IBM Premier Business Partner.

“With our direct support your company's IT staff no longer has to be the integrator of all this,” said Tom McDonald, NSI Chief Operating Officer. “IBM is utilizing our expertise because we have deep knowledge of our customers' needs.”
