Hot Spots & Security Laptop Security Imperiled |
| |
The increasing availability of ‘Hot Spots' is prompting renewed concern about the physical and data security of laptops.
Well-known laptop safety author and speaker James Gaskin just completed an extensive survey of laptop users at Wi-Fi locations nationwide and his findings were startling.
"Nobody had any clue what they were doing with their laptop," Gaskin said. "Everybody is deaf and blind about laptop safety."
Whether it was about encryption or the use of virtual private networks, laptop users were resisting their employers' security efforts.
"They think that what is theirs is theirs to control and if IT tries to add security safeguards they view it as an invasion of personal space."
