Slipstreaming – It's not Star Trek

This is a simple explanation of how to Slipstream your Service Pack. This example takes an original Windows XP Professional CD with no Service Pack and adds the Windows XP Service Pack 2 files to it. Copy your entire XP CD to your hard drive to an empty folder, with a recognizable name.

Start the nLite program, you will receive a Welcome screen. Click Next.

Choose the folder where you copied the XP CD. Notice it shows No SP. Click Next.

Choose your options, this example shows I choose to Integrate a SP and Create an ISO Image of the integrated files to make a new CD. Click Next.

Choose the Service Pack 2 installation file from where it is on your hard drive by clicking Select. Once selected, the integration will update the original files and a completed box will pop up.

Next, to create an ISO image file, first give it a label name. Click Make ISO.

You need to choose where the ISO image file will be saved and give it a name. I created a new folder called WinXpProSP2, and opted to save the file as WinXpProSP2.iso. Click Save when ready.

Your CD image file is then created.

Once finished, the program will show you the results. Notice it is Windows XP SP2. Simply click Next and Finish to exit the program.

Now you must create a new CD from the ISO image file. There are many CD Burning programs out there. I used the Nero program, but whatever you use, choose the option to Burn an Image. Select your WinXpProSP2.iso file and the new CD will be made. You may want to select a slower Burn speed than MAX, I used 8x. Test your CD to make sure it boots from the CD.
