| Authentication is Critical |
 Simply put, IT security is a moving target. Due to the rapid pace of change, it is imperative that IT managers at small and medium-sized businesses adjust procedures to ensure their networks are secure.Preventing unauthorized access to corporate systems is increasingly important in today’s environment with Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), increased government regulations, and a proliferation of security threats. NSI suggests beefing up your authentication procedures if you haven’t already done so. Regular passwords can be vulnerable to hackers because of the way employees often keep track of them (sticky notes, hard copy lists taped to desks, etc.). This is why NSI strongly recommends the use of two-tier authentication. With this process users must identify themselves by a PIN or password AND a smart card, token, or limited-time password. This will help stop unauthorized users from gaining access by stealing a password. |
