Health Care Organization Chooses Automated Tiered Storage

After evaluating several different options for storage and server consolidation, Masonic Care Community of New York (Utica) has ordered a complete server consolidation solution from NSI.

The system ordered by Masonic Care Community of New York consists of a pair of IBM x236 servers running VMware Infrastructure 3 with VMOTION and backed up by the leading edge Compellent QuickStart ILM (Information Lifecycle Management) Storage Area Network.

“This is a great way of utilizing current technology to streamline processes and consolidate equipment,” said Charles Spinelli, Director of Information Technology for Masonic Care Community of New York. “Simply put, it will allow for better IT utilization and management.”

Compellent Technologies provides the first-ever storage area network that fully automates tiered storage within a single disc drive enclosure. Data is automatically classified and migrated to the optimum tier of storage based on usage, enabling organizations of all sizes to implement an automated tier storage solution without the traditional cost and complexity of ILM.

“With automated tiered storage Masonic Care Community of New York can dramatically expand its storage capacity without buying more high-performance, high-cost disks,” said Bill Thompson, NSI Vice President.

The new system will enable the Masonic Community of New York to consolidate 12 existing servers onto the two IBM x236 servers using VMware's Infrastructure 3 and the Compellent SAN.
